Tuesday, November 19, 2002 ( 10:08 AM ) Greg Griffith :::::::::::::::::::: Last night I was channel-surfing and cruised past the Animal Planet, where a camel was shoving its face into the camera. Claire pointed and said "Camel!" That's not exactly something we work on, like "thank you," although Claire does have a camel in her bedroom, and SDG occasionally talks about it. It's clear she's starting to pick up words with less repetition, and with longer gaps since she last heard them. Also, every time there's football on TV, she points and says, "Ball!" -- # Monday, November 11, 2002 ( 1:30 PM ) Greg Griffith :::::::::::::::::::: Great Moments in Southern Etiquette Packy and Lulu swear that Claire told them "thank you" on two different occasions when we were home last (Packy said, "I know adults who don't know how to say thank-you"), but it was while they were babysitting, so I wasn't around to hear it myself. HOWEVER - the first thing this morning, SDG handed Claire a cup full of milk, and she said "thank you" clear as a bell. (The sign for it is here). -- # Monday, November 04, 2002 ( 10:54 PM ) Greg Griffith :::::::::::::::::::: It's starting to get interesting seeing the words Claire picks up without our knowing. I'm sure it will get even more interesting as time goes on, but for now the funniest moments are both innocent and private. Last night SDG said "Mercy!" as we labored to get Claire dried off after her bath and dressed. Claire immediately piped up: "Mercy!" ...and has been saying it ever since. Evidently this is something we say a lot more than we realize. Tonight at dinner she pointed at the food on her tray and said "mushroom!" We were surprised at the fact that she said that word, but even more surprised at how clearly she said it, since her "r" sound has been typically babyish so far, which is to say it's been more like a "w," or not even voiced at all. I've been on a key lime pie kick lately (our grocery store has had them for 10 cents apiece for the last few weeks), and Claire has discovered the joys of fresh homemade key lime pie. All it took was to ask her "Do you want some pie?" Now she sees us eating it, points to it, and says, "pie!" Other words in the past couple of days top (She insists on carrying around the top to a cardboard box, so we taught her the word and now she asks to play with it by name) water (This has been a long time coming, but tonight in the bathtub she finally said it. We wanted to make sure it was no accident, so a couple of times we asked her where the water was, and both times she put her palm flat on the water.) pretty (This is the same sign as "beautiful.") pumpkin (Daddy carved a tiny jack-o-lantern for Halloween from a pumpkin the size of a small cantaloupe) -- # Sunday, November 03, 2002 ( 4:26 PM ) Greg Griffith :::::::::::::::::::: Things all grandparents should know: love proud happy bring taste # |
